Ede man arrested in investigation into killing of badgers

A 32-year-old man from the municipality of Ede was arrested on Monday in connection with an investigation into the killing of badgers and the destruction of their burrows. Badgers are a protected species in the Netherlands, and it is illegal to kill them or damage their habitats, according to the police.

The arrest was made as part of an ongoing investigation by the Environmental Team, in collaboration with green officers (BOA) and the Noord-Nederland unit.

Authorities seized three dogs during the arrest, which were allegedly used in the killings of the badgers. The dogs have since been placed in an animal shelter. In addition, electronic devices were confiscated from the suspect and other individuals involved in the case.

The investigation is being continued by the Environmental Team of the Oost-Nederland unit. Once the inquiry is complete, the findings will be handed over to the Functional Public Prosecution Service for further action.
