Father denies involvement in daughter's death, points to another suspect

The 43-year-old father arrested in connection with the death of his 4-year-old daughter denies any involvement in the crime. His attorneys argue that the case file suggests another possible suspect.

Attorneys Ed Manders and Marko Šćulić have not revealed the identity of this alleged suspect but emphasized that, based on the case details, they believe it is unjust for the father to be considered the sole suspect by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM).

Emergency services found the child on Saturday at around 11:00 a.m. in an apartment on Blokfluit in Rotterdam-Zevenkamp. They attempted to resuscitate her, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Due to suspicious circumstances, police detained the father, and he was held for three days. However, on Tuesday, a judge ordered his release, citing insufficient evidence. The OM disagreed with the decision and appealed. The court will review the appeal next week. A spokesperson for the OM emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and the father remains the only suspect for now.

The police have established a Major Crime Investigation Team, composed of around 20 detectives, to probe the case. Few details about the cause of death have been released, but the OM believes the child’s death was the result of a criminal act. Additionally, a spokesperson confirmed that the child did not die from stab or gunshot wounds.
