Mild weather to persist with occasional rain across the Netherlands
The Netherlands is experiencing an unusually mild stretch of December weather, with gray skies, some sunny days, occasional rain, and temperatures consistently above seasonal averages, according to forecasts from KNMI and Weeronline.
Sunday, December 15, is expected to continue seeing mild weather, with predominantly gray skies and occasional light rain or drizzle, particularly inland. A moderate southwest wind, occasionally stronger along the coast, might bring warmer air to the region. The gray weather will persist into the evening with intermittent drizzle. The night is likely to bring a gradual clearing of rain, with most areas becoming dry as temperatures rose. Winds are most likely to remain moderate, coming from a westerly direction at force 3 or 4, according to Weeronline.
Monday's forecast predicts continued overcast conditions with highs of 11 to 12 degrees, especially in the south. Weeronline stated that there might be brief sunny spells in the north and northwest later in the day. The southwest to west winds were expected to stay moderate inland but become more robust along the northwest coast, with gusts reaching wind force 6.
Temperatures on Tuesday are set to drop slightly, with highs ranging from 8 degrees in eastern areas to 10 degrees in the south and coastal regions. Weeronline noted that skies would remain mostly cloudy, although brief sunny intervals are possible. The wind is expected to shift gradually to the south or southwest, maintaining a moderate to strong intensity.
During the evening and night, isolated showers are likely to move in from the west. Temperatures will begin to rise again as warmer air moves into the region, setting the stage for an unusually warm Wednesday.
Wednesday could bring the warmest temperatures of the week, with highs of up to 13 degrees in the south and southwest, while other regions will experience temperatures between 10 and 11 degrees. Weeronline forecasts strong winds, particularly in coastal and Wadden areas, where gusts could reach up to 75 km/h. Occasional showers may occur, but there will also be opportunities for sunshine.
Thursday marks the beginning of a wetter period, with heavy rainfall likely across much of the country. Weeronline reported that some areas could receive up to 20 millimeters of rain, driven by persistent southwesterly winds. Despite the rain, temperatures will remain mild, hovering around 10 degrees.
Friday is expected to see further periods of rain, accompanied by moderate to strong westerly winds. Highs will range from 9 to 10 degrees, keeping conditions mild for this time of year.
Saturday and Sunday may bring a mix of light rain and occasional dry spells, with temperatures forecast to stay between 7 and 10 degrees. KNMI’s long-term predictions indicate that the weather will likely remain soft and unsettled, with only a small chance (10-20 percent) of more wintry conditions developing before the end of the month.
