Unilever to sell off multiple food brands, including Dutch Unox, Conimex

Unilever is getting ready to sell off various food brands possibly including the Dutch brands Unox, Conimex, and De Vegetrische Slagter, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Monday after sources previously gave Reuters similar information.

Reuters’ sources previously reported that Unilever’s new CEO, Hein Schumacher, wants to focus on the company’s “power labels.” According to FD, the company’s planned sell-off would leave its food branch focused brands like Knorr and Hellman, which account for 60 percent of Unilever’s food sales.

“We have a very eclectic food portfolio and I am a strong believer that you need to focus,” Schumacher told FD without saying which brands were not making the cut. Reuters reported that Unox and Conimex were getting the axe. The British broadcaster Sky reported that De Vegetarische Slagter was also going up for sale. According to FD, the brands affected have a joint turnover of around 1 billion euros a year.

This year, Unilever already announced plans to sell off its ice cream unit. The company also started a reorganization, resulting in 7,500 office jobs disappearing worldwide, including some 3,200 in Europe.
