ProRail strike brings train traffic in central Netherlands to standstill

ProRail traffic controllers are striking between 06:00 and 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the traffic control posts in Amersfoort and Utrecht. NS calls these posts “the heart of the Dutch railways.”

The action has brought train traffic in central Netherlands to a standstill. No trains are running to and from Amersfoort and Utrecht, nor to places like Alphen aan den Rijn, Ede, Geldermalsen, Gouda, and Hilversum.

The strike is also noticeable outside the region, for example, for travelers heading to Schiphol and cities like Leiden, Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Deventer, and Almere. International trains are also affected.

Once the action stops at 9:00 a.m., it will take a large part of the morning to get trains running according to the timetable again. Travelers are advised to check the travel planner shortly before departure.

This is the second morning rush hour strike by ProRail traffic controllers this week. On Wednesday, their strike brought traint traffic in Noord-Holland and parts of Utrecht and Flevoland to a standstill. A strike on Monday afternoon mainly impacted freight traffic. More actions are planned for next week.
