Railway company NS warns that strike on Friday will severely impact train travel
The NS is warning that travel plans for people traveling by train will be severely impacted by the strike at the railway company ProRail on Friday morning. Train traffic will be at a standstill between 6 and 9 a.m. in the middle part of the country.
Employees at the traffic control posts in Amersfoort and Utrecht will stop working during the strike. According to NS, these places form "the heart of the Dutch railway.” There will be no trains to and from Amersfoort and Utrecht on Friday morning, nor to places such as Alphen aan den Rijn, Ede, Geldermalsen, Gouda, and Hilversum.
The railway company also warns that travelers in large parts of the country will have to deal with the consequences of the strike. Travelers to Schiphol and cities such as Leiden, Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Deventer, and Almere will also experience inconvenience. Travelers are advised to view the travel planner shortly before departure.
International train traffic will also be affected by the strike, NS International reported. The company expects problems for the intercity to Berlin, the ICE International, and the Nightjet night train.
Trains will start running after 9 a.m. However, travelers should expect delays and train cancelations for the whole morning.
Train traffic throughout Noord-Holland and parts of Utrecht and Flevoland was already at a standstill on Wednesday due to the strike.
ProRail employees will strike next Monday in the Rotterdam, The Hague, and Roosendaal regions, on Wednesday in the Eindhoven and Maastricht regions, and on Friday they will stop work in the Zwolle, Groningen and Arnhem regions. It is not yet known what these strikes mean for travelers.
