"Iceman" Wim Hof denies domestic violence accusations, plans to sue Dutch newspaper

Wim Hof denies the accusations of domestic violence his ex, Caroline, made against him in the Volkskrant and accused the newspaper of defamation and slander, a representative of the “Iceman” said in a press release this week. He has filed a report against the newspaper and plans to take legal steps. Hof also said that the biopic about him wasn’t put on hold because of the allegations but because the scriptwriter was replaced.

According to the representative, the Volkskrant published “false accusations” without “conducting its own thorough investigation” despite the fact that Hof told the newspaper that one of its sources was unreliable. “The allegations of domestic violence, as portrayed, are not only grossly exaggerated but also deeply hurtful.”

The newspaper also did not include or only very briefly mentioned the “extensive responses” Hof gave to its questions and didn’t include other sources who spoke positively about him, the representative said. “As a result, a one-sided and incorrect image has been presented.”

According to the representative, the article addressed a “difficult” and “undeniably unhealthy” time in Hof’s life, but the accusations made “do not accurately reflect the situation.” The Volkskrant neglected an important aspect of the story, the representative said. “Instances of psychological manipulation from Caroline directed not only toward Wim but also toward some of his children.”

No case has been pursued against Hof due to lack of evidence, and the domestic violence conviction mentioned in the article “relates to a single incident involving Caroline’s 18-year-old son,” the representative said. “Wim clarifies that no physical violence occurred, only a struggle.”

Hof pressed charges of defamation and slander against the newspaper on Tuesday and intends to take legal action. He holds the newspaper liable for “providing a platform for false accusations without conducting its own investigation.”
