Chappell Roan cancels Amsterdam show to attend MTV award show, angering fans
Chapell Roan has canceled her sold-out Amsterdam concert on September 4 due to “scheduling conflicts.” Her show in Paris also got the axe. Disappointed fans on social media believe the singer cut their show so that she could prepare for her performance at the MTV Music Video Awards on September 11th.
“Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows,” Roan said on social media. “I am so sorry and very disappointed. I promise I will be back. I am heartbroken. Thank you for understanding.” Her Berlin show got rescheduled to September 23.
Roan has made her breakthrough since the announcement of her concert in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Tickets for her show in the Amsterdam venue’s largest space, which can hold about 1,500 people, sold out in no time. Over 18,000 people were searching for tickets to her Amsterdam show in TicketSwap, NU.nl reported. That is more people than can fit into the Ziggo Dome.
Amsterdam fans were, naturally, very disappointed and made their feelings clear on social media.
“Chappell Roan canceling her Amsterdam show less than a week before it’s supposed to happen is so disappointing…” one fan wrote on X. “This is as if you don’t care about your fans whose been here since before you blew up.”
“Chappell Roan canceling the Amsterdam and Paris show 6 days beforehand because of ‘scheduling conflicts.’ Girl, just say you booked a big TV show or the VMAs,” said another.
“Chappell Roan’s team canceling the Amsterdam show LESS THAN A WEEK before it is extremely unprofessional behavior and I'm very disappointed,” said another. “I don’t know if ‘scheduling conflicts’ is code for ‘found a better paying gig’ but some of us planned our OWN schedules according to it.”
The Melkweg confirmed that the show was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Fans will get their ticket money automatically refunded.
Roan is known for hits like Good Luck, Babe! and HOT TO GO!
