Wout Weghorst coming to Amsterdam: Ajax finalizes transfer: report

Wout Weghorst is coming to Amsterdam. Ajax has reached a final agreement with Burnley for his transfer overnight, the Telegraaf reported. The clubs’ lawyers will put the deal on paper on Wednesday. The Oranje striker’s medical is also scheduled for Wednesday.

According to the Telegraaf, Amsterdam is paying considerably less for Weghorst’s transfer than the Amsterdam club got for Silvano Vos’s.

Ajax already has two strikers - Chuba Akpom and Brian Brobbey. Akpom was never a regular last season but did score a hat-trick against Jagiellonia Bialystok last Thursday. Brobbey cannot yet count on a starting place because coach Francesco Farioli does not consider him fit enough after the European Championship and his holiday. It is unclear whether Akpom or Brobbey will leave after Weghorst’s arrival.

Burnley loaned Weghorst out in recent seasons, according to NOS. First, he was loaned to Besiktas, then for six months to coach Erik ten Hag at Machester United. Last season, he played on loan at Hoffenheim. He scored seven goals for the German club.

This summer, national coach Ronald Koeman used Weghorst as his pinch-hitter in the European Championship. As a substitute, the striker shot the Dutch national team to a 2-1 victory at the start of the championship.
