Venezuelans demonstrate in Amsterdam against President Maduro

Dozens of Venezuelans living in the Netherlands demonstrated in front of Amsterdam Central Station against the election victory of President Nicolás Maduro on July 28. They carried Venezuelan flags and signs with texts such as 'Venezuela Libre' (Free Venezuela) and 'Freedom for all political prisoners' (Freedom for all political prisoners), as seen on social media.

The left-wing populist and authoritarian Nicolás Maduro was elected president for the third time. However, Maduro's victory is disputed. It is said to be the result of rigging the results. The victory actually belongs to opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.

As a result, the Venezuelan opposition coalition has called for protests worldwide on August 17 to back up its claim to victory in the country's presidential election, the BBC reported.

Many Venezuelans no longer living in their home country have followed this protest worldwide, including in Australia, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In Brussels, for instance, some 250 Venezuelans gathered at Albertina Square to protest against Maduro's government.

At least 24 people were killed and thousands arrested during protests against Maduro in Venezuela.
