After Trump attack: Wilders wants stricter security measures for right-wing politicians
The assassination attempt on Donald Trump caused a worldwide shock. Prime Minister Schoof and other Dutch politicians commented on the attack shortly afterward. PVV leader Geert Wilders called on Sunday that we should learn from the attack and that stricter security measures must be implemented for right-wing politicians in the Netherlands. "Don't underestimate it. The hatred towards right-wing politicians is also unprecedented in our country. Their security should be significantly increased where necessary," Wilders emphasized on X.
According to an NCTV spokesperson, the agency is vigilant following the attack. "We are, of course, looking into whether this has an impact on the Netherlands," he told the newspaper. However, the spokesperson did not comment on concrete security measures.
The NCTV contributes to a safe and stable Netherlands by "identifying threats to vital interests and strengthening the resilience and protection of these interests", according to the agency. To this end, the NCTV focuses on "identifying and reducing identified threats, securing and strengthening the resilience" of people, services, authorities, and much more, the agency reports.
The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was shot at during a campaign rally on Saturday. The former US president was shot at least eight times during the rally. One shot hit Trump's ear; another shot hit an attendee at the rally, which ended fatally. The 20-year-old shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was then killed by a Secret Service sniper.
