Apple is postponing the launch of AI products in Europe

Apple is temporarily postponing the launch of certain artificial intelligence (AI) products in Europe due to uncertainties about European Union regulations that limit the power of big tech companies. According to the company, this concerns Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and SharePlay Screen Sharing, which will not be available to users in the EU this year.

Apple points to the rules of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). In this law, large tech companies are seen as a kind of "gatekeepers", subjecting them to all kinds of strict rules regarding, for example, privacy, data protection, and competition. This means that competitors must be given space on their platforms.

Apple states that due to the requirements set by the DMA, there may be security risks for its users around AI applications. The American company released Apple Intelligence earlier this month. The group also announced that it was entering into a partnership with OpenAI, making AI chatbot ChatGPT available on iPhones.

The European Commission stated that gatekeepers are welcome to offer their services in Europe, provided they comply with the rules on fair competition.
