Hospital releases girl, 10, severely beaten allegedly by foster parents

The 10-year-old girl from Vlaardingen who had been severely injured after allegedly being assaulted by her foster parents was discharged from the hospital. She has been transferred to a medical center that specializes in recovery care. Her life is no longer in danger, but "the uncertainty about her recovery remains significant," a statement released on behalf of the girl's biological family reads.

It was not yet clear how the girl's situation will develop, according to the organization. The spokespeople added that no new information will be provided about her situation to protect the girl's privacy.

The biological mother and her family have "many unanswered questions about how it has gotten to this point," it said in the statement. They are hoping that the various investigations will bring them the answers.

The 37-year-old foster parents are in custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault, deprivation of liberty, and putting or leaving someone in a helpless state.

The girl was brought to the hospital by acquaintances during the overnight hours from May 20 and May 21. She was unresponsive at the time. It was announced earlier that the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate was investigating the quality and safety of the girl's care during her stay with the foster family.

The Justice and Security Inspectorate and the Education Inspectorate were also involved in the investigation.
