Mass brawl at youth football match in The Hague, two arrested

The police had to intervene with a large number of officers on Saturday evening after a football match between the youth teams of the Hague clubs HBS and GSC Esdo on the grounds of the HBS football club on Daal and Bergselaan in The Hague ended in a mass brawl. An alleged wrong decision by the referee for one of the two U16 teams led to heated discussions that ultimately ended in violence, the police reported.

Several police units had to intervene to restore order. According to the regional radio station West, 40 officers were deployed. A police spokesman, however, would not confirm this figure. The units used batons when a group of people turned against the police. Two people were arrested, one for assault and the other for disobeying a police order.

Overall, two people were injured after the brawl. One person was bitten by a police dog; the other was injured during police action.
