Health insurance deductible will be slashed in half by new Dutch coalition
The PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB have agreed that the health insurance deductible will be halved. Sources confirmed the news to the political reporters of RTL Nieuws. The deductible is currently 385 euros a year.
The deductible has been a topic of discussion for politicians in The Hague for years. The PVV made the deductible an important election issue in the campaign.
PVV leader Geert Wilders promised during an election debate that he would abolish the deductible entirely. He blamed PvdA leader Frans Timmermans, who wanted to do that gradually, for not acting with more urgency.
The PVV were then ridiculed when left wing parties in the lower house of Dutch parliament the Tweede Kamer wanted to tackle the deductible. The PVV shot it down.
Abolishing the deductible would cost around three billion euros a year. The PVV said they would be able to give clarity regarding the situation after the Cabinet formation.
