CIDI reports Instagram account CestMocro for inciting hatred against Jews
The Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) filed a complaint against the owner of the Instagram account CestMocro for inciting hatred and violence against Jews. The association working on behalf of Jewish rights also reported individuals who commented on the platform.
The account has over one million followers and bases its coverage on Dutch media stories. According to CIDI, the account is predominantly followed by young people. Another Instagram account owned by the same individual, CestMocroTV, has almost 400,000 followers.
According to CIDI, many comments on these accounts contain anti-Semitic statements. "These remarks cross all boundaries and are deeply offensive to the Jewish community in our country. They are shocking, reprehensible, and incite hatred and violence against Jews. No emotion about the conflict between Israel and Hamas justifies these horrifying statements," CIDI claimed.
The organization urged the Public Prosecution Service to prosecute the account owner and those who commented for group insult, threat, and intimidation. CIDI also called for the account to be taken offline, as its content is contrary to public order and poses a threat to national security. "Singling out and insulting a population group cannot be seen as anything other than an affront to all Dutch citizens who advocate a decent rule of law," CIDI stated.
CIDI also informed the outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Justice Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz of their "grave concerns" regarding the comments and posts on the account, and urged them to condemn "this form of incitement."
In response, CestMocro claimed on Instagram that they have never incited hatred against Jews and never will. "We stand up for the innocent civilians who have been murdered in Gaza for over two weeks now,” their post reads.
Meta, Instagram's parent company, were not reachable for comments on Wednesday afternoon.
