Underage girl arrested for massive number of fires in Gelderland village

A minor was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of setting a very large number of fires in the Gelderland village of Zuilichem over the past months, the police said in a statement. The girl was arrested in her home on Boogerd just before 10:00 p.m., according to Omroep Gelderland.

Small fires started breaking out in Zuilichem in July. Containers, conifers, and cars went up in flames. In July there were ten fires in one week, according to the broadcaster. The fires continued in the months that followed, the last one happening just a few hours before the girl's arrest. The roof of a house on the girl's street was set alight.

The young suspect is in custody for further investigation. Her home was also searched. The police are investigating whether she was involved with all the fires that were set.
