A man was found dead at the bottom of an apartment building on Argostraat in Alphen aan den Rijn on Thursday morning. His 4-year-old daughter was with him. She was injured, the police said in a statement.
The police responded to the scene at around 6:30 a.m. after reports of a man and child lying at the bottom of the apartment building. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the man, but it was to no avail.
The police believe the man took his own life by jumping from the apartment building. “Because the girl was injured, it cannot be ruled out at this time that the man took the child with him in his fatal jump”, the police said.
The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she is being treated in the presence of her mother. She is not life-threatening danger, the police said.
The police are investigating exactly what happened. Victim Support is available at the police station on Kees Mustersstraat for people who need it in connection with this incident.
