Dutch trucker not involved in 'yellow vest' hit-and-run
A truck driver from Dongen who was arrested on suspicion of killing a 'yellow vest' protester in a hit-and-run in Belgium on Friday, was not involved in the accident. The truck that hit the 50-year-old man looked identical to the truck the Dutch man drives, but turned out not to be the same vehicle, RTL Nieuws reports.
The Dongen trucker was arrested on Saturday at the request of the Belgian Public Prosecutor. He was released again on Sunday. He is no longer a suspect in this case. His truck, which was confiscated, has also been returned to him. Another suspect was arrested, according to the broadcaster.
The accident happened on the E25 highway between Visé and Maastricht, just over the Dutch border. A group of around 20 'yellow vests' were blocking the highway. Passenger cars were allowed through the blockade, but not trucks. According to the Belgian judiciary, the protester was hit by a truck with Dutch license plates, which then fled the scene.
