Father arrested after toddler's fall from 1st floor apartment

A 41-year-old man was arrested in Ridderkerk on Saturday after his 1-year-old child fell from a first floor apartment on Fresiastraat. The police are investigating exactly what happened.

At around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday the police received a report that a toddler had fallen from the first floor of the apartment building. According to the police, the report indicated that the boy may have been thrown from the apartment. "Presumably a quarrel in the home of father and child preceded the incident", the police said in a statement.

At the scene, first responders found the toddler breathing, but in critical condition. He was rushed to hospital. According to the police, the boy is doing "reasonably" under the circumstances.

The child's father is currently in custody for questioning. The police are trying to get clarity about exactly what happened in the apartment. According to ANP, the boy's mother was also in the apartment at the time of the incident.

The police call on witnesses to come forward .
