Explosives found in Amsterdam; dozens of homes evacuated
Dozens of homes were evacuated on Lambertus Zijlplein in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on Tuesday morning after explosives were discovered, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter. The police believe the explosives were to be used in an ATM bombing at a supermarket. The explosives were not detonated.
The police reported the evacuation on Twitter around 5:00 a.m. About 30 homes were evacuated, a police spokesperson said to NU.nl. Explosive experts are at the scene to safely remove the explosives.
In the summer multiple explosives were found in Amsterdam, including two hand grenades tied to shop doors.
