Suspects in Tilburg station bomb threat released

Four men arrested in connection with a bomb threat at Tilburg station on Sunday, were released again on Monday. According to the police, they had nothing to do with a suspicious suitcase on a train at the station, NOS reports.

The police received multiple reports of an abandoned suitcase in a train to Tilburg on Sunday evening. Some of the reports also mentioned the four men. The police "obviously" took the reports seriously and responded in large numbers.

The station and part of the train was evacuated, and train traffic was halted. A SWAT team arrested the four men. But after questioning, the police concluded that they had nothing to do with the suitcase in question and they were released on Monday. The suitcase also did not contain any explosives, or anything that could lead to the owner, the police said.

"The reports were serious enough to arrest the men. Further investigation had to show whether they had anything to do with it. That takes time", a police spokesperson said to NOS. The fact that they spent a night in custody has to do with the time at which they were arrested. "Those who are arrested in the evening get a night's sleep from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 the next morning."

The spokesperson confirmed that the men were not happy with their unjust stay in the police cell, but "I hope for some understanding. We do not do this for our pleasure."
