Victims in Arnhem flat explosion succumb to injuries

Two men who where seriously injured in an explosion and fire in an apartment in Arnhem on Monday, succumbed to their injuries. A third victim was found and is in hospital, the police said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

So far the police said nothing about the victims' identity. Traces of "drug-related business" were found in the apartment.

The explosion happened in the Daphnestraat apartment around 9:00 p.m. By the time the police arrived, neighbors had helped one victim into a shower, and the second victim jumped into a watery ditch himself. The third ran into the neighborhood. The two men who were still on Daphnestraat were rushed to hospital in critical condition, where they later died of their injuries.

A search was launched for the third victim. A boat, sniffer dogs and a helicopter were used, and his description was spread on Burgernet, but the man could not be found on Monday night. He was found on Brabantsingel on Tuesday morning. This man also sustained burns and was taken to hospital.

The police investigation into what exactly happened in the apartment continues.

A video of the explosion surfaced online:
