Explosion in Arnhem flat; two seriously hurt

An explosion, followed by a fire, in a top floor apartment on Daphnestraat in Arnhem left two people seriously injured on Monday night. A search was launched for a third person who may be hurt. The two victims were taken to hospital with burns, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Gelderland Midden said to RTL Nieuws.

Witnesses reported seeing a third person run out of the apartment building shortly after the explosion. There are concerns that he may be injured. His description was spread on citizens' alert system Burgernet. He is a white man of around 40 years old, 1.8 meters tall, with a normal posture. He was wearing gray jeans and a gray T-shirt, and may be covered in blood or burns.

The police searched the area with sniffer dogs and a helicopter.

The police and fire department are investigating what caused the explosion.
