Dutch man killed in fall from Belgian balcony

A young Dutch man was killed when he fell from a seventh floor balcony in Oostende, Belgium on Saturday. The initial results of the local police's investigation indicate that he jumped off the balcony himself, under the influence of a spacecake, Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reports.

Victim 26-year-old Bob D. and two friends men rented an apartment on the Albert I promenade in Oostende for the weekend, according to the newspaper. On Saturday they decided to use cannabis. D. did not want to smoke it, so they got him a spacecake. According to his friends, he did not feel the effects immediately and ended up eating the whole cake.

D. went to lie down a short time later and his friends went out. When they got back around 8:00 p.m., they found an ambulance at the door. The young Dutch man fell from the balcony while they were away.

According to the newspaper, he landed in the courtyard of Ristorante Marina. The chef found him. The naked young man wasn't moving. Emergency services were called and the chef tried to resuscitate the Dutch man. "He still had a heartbeat, but it was too weak to get him through", the chef said to the newspaper.

The police in Bruges confirmed to the newspaper that an investigation is ongoing into the Dutch man's death. His two friends were arrested, but were released again 48 hours later.
