Crane topples on IJssel river; two hurt
Two people were injured when a crane toppled on Schaardijk in Krimpen aan den IJssel on Tuesday morning. Multiple persons ended up in the IJssel river, but they have all been rescued from the water, AD reports.
One of the two injured sustained a head wound. Five other people were also checked over by paramedics.
The incident happened on the Hollandia BV site on Schaardijk. The crane was moving a bridge section when it fell over. The cause of the incident is not yet known.
The Inspectorate for Social Affairs and Employment is investigating. "It looks like the crane broke in two, because the prong is transverse to the crane" a spokesperson for the local safety office said to the newspaper. According to the safety office, it could have been much worse. The crane could have fallen in the other direction. "There were many people working on and around the crane."
According to the police, the fire brigade and Seaport Police are at the scene to provide assistance.
