Heavy traffic, unremarkable weather expected for Easter
With many Dutch going away for the Easter weekend, and thousands of foreign tourists heading to the Netherlands, many traffic problems are expected starting around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, according to public works department Rijkswaterstaat.
Recreation traffic will combine with regular commuters traffic, and that will definitely be noticeable. Especially on the A1 around Amersfoort, the A12 around Arnhem and towards the Veluwe and the highways heading to the south. Rijkswaterstaat expects traffic jams to start forming around 2:00 p.m., and only dissipating around 7:30 p.m.
Last Easter weekend the holiday crowds caused 440 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads, a record. This year Rijkswaterstaat expects around 350 kilometers of jams.
The weather this weekend is expected to be unremarkable. There will be some periods of sunshine on Friday and Sunday, and showers throughout the weekend, according to Buieradar. Maximum temperatures around 12 degrees are expected for Friday. The rest of the weekend will be slightly cooler with maximums ranging between 6 and 10 degrees.
