Girl, 8, sold for 1 euro on Dutch website a prank by two sisters

An advertisement on Dutch site Marktplaats listing an 8-year-old girl for sale for 1 euro, resulted in multiple reports to the police that a Groningen mother wants to sell her child. It turned out the girl's two older sisters, aged 11 and 12 years, put the ad up, a spokesperson for the police said to RTV Noord.

"She is very sweet, only we have too many children. Take her and give her happiness", the ad read.

"We quickly figured out who was behind this. It turned out to be a very bad joke", police spokesperson Anne van der Meer said to the broadcaster. The two sisters had a "serious conversation" with the police. "The mother was also present. This means that the case is settled for us", she said. The police also informed everyone who reported the ad about what was going on.
