Dutch pilot sets New York to London time record
Dutch pilot Harold van Dam broke the record for quickest transatlantic flight by a subsonic aircraft while flying for budget airline Norwegian this week. Flying with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner carrying 284 passengers, Van Dam flew from New York to London in 5 hours and 13 minutes, breaking the previous record of 5 hours and 16 minutes, Norwegian announced.
"The 787 Dreamliner is a pleasure to fly and it's a great feeling to know that we have set a new record in this aircraft. We were actually in the air for just over five hours and if it had not been for forecasted turbulence at lower altitude, we could have flown even faster", Van Dam said. The plane reached a top speed of 1,249 kilometers per hour.
Another Norwegian pilot, Pascall Niewold, broke the top speed record also on the New York to London flight, also this week. His Boeing 787 Dreamliner reached a top sped of 1,254 kilometers per hour.
