First storm warning of 2018 predicts strong sustained winds, rain

Heavy gusts of winds reaching 110 kilometers per hour are predicted for Tuesday night, in advance of even fiercer gales during the Wednesday morning rush hour. A code yellow weather warning was already in place for the first storm of 2018 a full 24 hours in advance of its expected arrival, national meteorological office KNMI announced.

The weather warning is in place from 3 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and is especially meant as a note of caution for drivers, motorbike riders, and bicyclists to be particularly mindful of the blustery wind. Thundershowers are expected in the center of the country overnight.

Localized rain showers are expected throughout the day across the Netherlands on Wednesday. Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday are predicted to reach between 7 degrees in the north and 9 degrees in the south. Overnight, it could peak up to 10 degrees around Utrecht.
