Police to escort anti-racism protesters to Dokkum

On Saturday there will be a demonstration against racism and Zwarte Piet in Dokkum. The police will escort the protesters to the Friesland town, to make sure their way isn't block as it was when they were heading to an approved protest at Sinterklaas' national arrival almost two weeks ago, NOS reports.

The demonstration on Saturday is an initiative of Zwarte Piet is Rascisme, Stop Blackface, Free Your Mind, Doorbraak and Progressive Groningen, according to the broadcaster. The protest is scheduled for between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Kick Out Zwarte Piet and other protesters arranged to protest against racism at Sinterklaas' national arrival in Dokkum on November 18th. However, they couldn't reach the town in time for their protest, because a group of people blocked the A7 highway between Joure and Heerenveen. When the protesters finally arrived, their demonstration was canceled.

The mayor of Dongeradeel, which covers Dokkum, decided to ban all demonstrations at the Sint's arrival based on information that protesters brought dangerous fireworks with them.
