Amsterdam cops, firefighters remove disturbed man from school's roof

The Amsterdam police had to close down the Van Hogendorpplein and a number of surrounding streets on Thursday morning because a seemingly disturbed man was throwing bricks from the roof of the Westerpark school. It took firefighters and a police negotiator over an hour to talk him down, Het Parool reports.

The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance. His condition is unknown.

Local residents told Het Parool that the man lives on nearby Van der Duinstraad and has mental health problems. His neighbors describe him as flirty and "eccentric".

The man did not hurt anyone with his thrown bricks. It is not yet clear whether he caused any other damage.
