Paraglider seriously injured in fall from great height

A paraglider fell from a very great height in the dunes near Julianadorp on Thursday afternoon. The victim was seriously injured and rushed to the VU Medical Center by air ambulance, RTV Noord-Holland reports.

The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. on King's Day. A spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland-Noord told the broadcaster that the victim was bleeding so severely that blood had to be fetched from neighboring hospitals.

According to RTV NH, the fact that the victim was rushed to hospital by helicopter says something about the extent of the injuries - air ambulances are mostly used to rush experts to scenes of accidents, not to transport patients.
