Temporary workers claim disability benefit more often: report
Temporary workers are more likely to be occupationally disabled than employees with a permanent contract, according to a report by top officials from all Ministries. Temps therefore claim disability benefits more often, the Volkskrant reports.
The Netherlands has more than 1.5 million temporary workers, and that number is only increasing. The term "temporary worker" includes freelancers, payrollers, seasonal workers and employees with a so-called "zero-time contract". Over 7 million people have a permanent job in the Netherlands. Yet more than half of the current disability benefits go to temporary workers.
The officials think that the fact that temporary workers are more likely to be on disability should be a topic discussed in the government formation negotiations.
