Dutch hotel prices continue to rise as economy recovers

Spending a night in a hotel in the Netherlands is becoming increasingly expensive as economic conditions continue to improve, according to ABN Amro's economic agency. Last year the price of a night in a Dutch hotel increased by about 8 percent, and the bank expects the prices to continue increasing this year, ANP reports.

A hotel room in the Netherlands costs an average of 104 euros per night, ranging from 88 euros for a 3 star hotel to 208 euros for a 5 star hotel. The prices vary greatly per region. For example, staying in an Amsterdam hotel is much more expensive than staying in Maastricht.

According to the bank, the increasing hotel prices can be attributed increasing tourism, which can partly be attributed to favorable economic conditions.

In 2012 a total of 21 million people spent nights in hotels in the Netherlands, last year there were 26 million. The number of visitors to Amsterdam increased significantly, but Rotterdam is also becoming increasingly popular.

And thanks to the favorable economic conditions, the number of tourists is expected to increase further this eyar. That means an expected further sales growth of around 3 percent for the hotel industry. Over the past seven years the sector's revenue already increased by nearly 30 percent, according to the bank.
