Severed head found in canal decade ago reconstructed as police reopen case

The Dutch police reopened a cold case of a severed head found in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, near Breukelen in July 2006. Using new techniques the police reconstructed the head and new information indicates that the victim is a Colombian or Ecuadorian man between the ages of 42 and 45 years, the police in Huizen said.

In September 2005 a burnt body was found in a case in a forest near Huizen. The body's head and hands were missing. The rest of the body parts, including the head, were found in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal almost a year later.

The police hope that the reconstruction will help in identifying the victim.
