Daughter of murdered politician Els Borst tormented by stalker
The daughter of murdered politician Els Borst was tormented by a stalker for several months early this year. She received bizarre and frightening letters at home, at work, through snail-mail and email. The man suspected of being behind these letters - a 54-year-old man from Roosendaal with a psychiatric disorder - appeared in court on Monday, AD reports.
According to the newspaper, the daughter of the former politician received letteers during the first five months of this year. The letters were completely incoherent and talked about secret services, fake marriages and "gender diffusers". The writer believes he is the target of "a number of guests from the secret service", who permanently cause misery in his life. He wants the woman, and a number of somewhat famous Dutch, to help him in his fight against the "sadistic idiots".
The Public Prosecutor accused ths supsect of stalking, but has no indictment yet. Prosecutor H. Huizenga does not really know what to do about the man, according to AD. He's been in a mental health institution since his arrest on June 1st, but refuses to cooperate with a psychiatric esamination.
The suspect's lawyer feels that stalking is too heavy an allegation. He admits that the content of the letters are distressing, but according to him they contain no direct or intentiona threats.
The court decided not to take any chances - mental health problems and the name Borst in the same sentence triggers caution in the Dutch legal system - and sent the man back to the mental health institution for the time being. His trial is scheduled to start in March next year.
Former CDA minister Els Borst was brutally murdered by Bart van U. in February 2014. He was found completely insane and sentenced to institutionalized psychiatric care. He stated that God ordered him to kill Borst for her roll in the Netherlands' Euthanasia Act.
