Postcard stamp prices jumps to 78 cents

PostNL is increasing the price of stamps. From January 1st the basic rate for domestic mail will be 78 cents. That is an increase of 5 cents per stamp, ANP reports. Other postage tariffs are also increasng. The price of postage for domestic mail with a franking machine is increasing 7 cents to 72 cents. The base rate for mail abroad is increasing 8 cents to 1.33 euros According to PostNL, these price increases are necessary due to the annual reduction in the amount of mail sent. "more and more people use digital media, which means that every year fewer letters are sent. In 2015 the volume decline was 11 percent", the company said. The postal company tries to compensate for the volume decline with internal cost cuts as much as possible. "Yet rate increases are also necessary to keep mail in the Netherlands reliable and accessible in the future."
