Dutch football director resigns
Bert van Oostveen, director of professional football in the Netherlands, is leaving the KNVB this week. With the appointment of Hans van Breukelen as technical director, a number of Van Oosteveen's tasks are falling away, giving him the chance to step down, NU.nl reports.
Van Oosteveen was under fire at the KNVB for some time. He had to dismiss Guus Hiddink only a year after appointing him as coach. This meant that the long-term plan to promote assistant coach Danny Blind was pushed up. But Blind was unable to bring the Dutch football team to the 2016 European Championships in France.
The KNVB also received a lot of criticism under Van Oosteveen's leadership. Particularly in the case of FC Twente's license. The club was relegated to the Jupiler League due to financial mismanagement at the club. The football club fought this punishment in court, which ruled in the club's favor, meaning that FC Twente will be allowed to play in the Eredivisie after al.
Van Oosteveen, 45, toook the post of director of professional football at KNVB in 2010. He succeeded Henk Kesler.
