Police fire shots while chasing stolen delivery van

Police officers in Helmond fired shots while trying to get a stolen delivery van off the road during the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Eindhoven police said on Twitter. The occupants of the van got away. The van was stolen in Someren around 1:30 a.m. When officers spotted it around Kanaaldijk Zuid-West in Helmond, they tried to force it off the road. The van crashed into a police car, and officers fired shots. But the van and its occupants still managed to get away. Later on Tuesday morning the van was found empty in the area Straakven Helmond-Oost. There was no sign of the occupants. The police are calling on the public to report anything suspicious that may be related to the case. As far as is known, no one was injured when the van crashed into the police car, or when shots were fired.
