Netherlands gives human rights lawyer extra security after death threats
Human rights lawyer Nada Kiwanson and her family is living under extra security in their home in the Netherlands after she received numerous death threats because of her work for the International Criminal Court, NRC reported on Thursday.
According to the newspaper, the Jordanian-Swedish lawyer's job entails finding material for the court's pre-investigation into possible war crimes committed by Israel in Palestine.
About six months ago Kiwanson started receiving threatening phone calls and flower deliveries with intimidating messages in them. According to NRC, Kiwanson suspects that Israeli services are behind the threats. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the newspaper that they'd "rather not respond to such allegations".
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and the Public Prosecutor are aware of the threats and taking the situation seriously.
