Average Netherlands Eredivisie football salary hits €266,000


In the 2014-2015 football season the average footballer in the Eredivisie earned 266 thousand euros, according to figures from employers' organization FBO, the Volkskrant reports.

This means that for the first time in five years, the salaries of Eredivisie players increased. Between 2010 and 2014 the average salary fell from 355 thousand euros to 263 thousand euros per year.

There are considerable differences in salaries within the league itself. The majority of the players earn much less than the average. Ajax and PSV players earn the most. Luuk de Jong is one of the big earners with a gross annual salary of 2.55 million euros.

There is also a large gap between the Eredivisie league and foreign leagues. Player in the English Premier League earn 1.7 million euros annually on average. Even players in England's second level league earn more on average than in the Netherlands.
