Taxi driver arrested for charging €195 for Schiphol to Amsterdam trip
A taxi driver was arrested for fraud after he charged a customer 195 euros for short ride from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam on July 8th, the police said on Thursday.
The driver picked up a man at the airport's arrival hall. When they arrived in Amsterdam and the astonished customer asked why the price was so high, he was shown an amount on a screen that was not the taxi meter. The driver also refused to give the man change, resulting in the unfortunate traveler losing a total of 200 euros for one short trip.
The passengers reported the incident to the police, who arrested the taxi driver on the same day. He is no longer in custody, but the investigation against him is still ongoing. His taxi license was revoked for 12 weeks. If he is convicted, the taxi license will be revoked permanently.
