Women dies after setting self alight in Dutch village

A 51-year-old woman died in a Beverwijk hospital after she set herself on fire in the village of Bennekom on Saturday afternoon, AD reports. The woman doused herself with benzine and set herself alight in the bandstand in Bennekom center on Saturday afternoon. An air ambulance rushed her to a hospital in Beverwijk with serious burns. She died there of her injuries on Sunday night, according to the newspaper. A spokesperson for the police said to AD that the woman was struggling with serious mental problems and that no others were involved in the incident. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the woman buying charcoal and benzine at a supermarket before the incident.
