Dutch brewery Grolsch sold to Asahi in €2.55 billion deal

AB InBev accepted a bid from Japanese brewer Asahi to buy certain SABMiller brands. The Japanese brewer will by 2.55 billion euros for Dutch brewery Grolsch, Italian brewery Peroni and small British brewery Meantime, AB InBev announced in a press release on Tuesday. The acquisition is conditional on the successful merge of AB InBev with SABMiller. European competition authorities are still investigating what competition problems will come with the 70 billion dollar merge of two of the largest brewers in the world. One of the conditions set for the merge is that SABMiller gets rid of certain brands. A condition Asahi is taking advantage of. Asahi, the biggest brewer in Japan, is looking to expand its market. Beer sales in the Asian country declined significantly over the past two decades due to a shrinking population and wine growing in popularity.
