"Horror Dentist" trial: 8 years imprisonment demanded

The prosecutor in Nevers, France demanded eight years in prison against Dutch dentist Mark van N. The Dutchman is accused of defrauding and mutilating more than a hundred patients between 2008 and 2012 at his practice in the French village of Chateau-Chinon. According to the Telegraaf, the prosecutor emphasized that simply pulling a healthy tooth without necessity is considered mutilation under French criminal law. And Van N.'s actions had much more serious consequences, including permanent paralysis due to improper use of anesthesia. Mark van N. fled to Canada in 2013 after being questioned by the French police. He was arrested there and extradited to the Netherlands, after confessing to killing his wife with assisted suicide. The Netherlands in turn extradited him to France to face mutilation charges. The Dutch prosecutor recently decided that Van N. will not be prosecuted for helping his wife commit suicide. The trial against him began last week.
