Crane driver suspected of causing fatal train crash

The crane operator involved in a fatal train crash near Dalfsen on Tuesday, is officially suspected of death by negligence, causing a fatal traffic accident and causing danger on the railroad, a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl on Wednesday. The 21-year-old crane operator was detained and questioned by the police on Tuesday. He will remain a suspect as long as the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Once the investigation is completed, the Public Prosecutor will decide whether or not he will be prosecuted. 49 year old train driver Eric Breet was killed when his Arriva train crashed into a crane near Dalfsen on Tuesday. The train derailed and ended up in the fields next to the track. Six other people were also injured, two of whom had to go to the hospital.
