La Place drops toilet matrons making bathrooms free of charge
With the acquisition of La Place, supermarket chain Jumbo is getting rid of the restaurants' toilet matrons to make using the bathrooms free of charge, the Telegraaf reports.
According to the newspaper, the toilet matrons received a letter on Thursday informing them that they will no longer be needed after this week, to their dismay.
The toilet matrons at La Place worked as independent contractors, one of them explained to the newspaper. They leased the toilets for a token monthly fee and were then responsible for its cleaning. Paying to use the bathroom was voluntary. "But in practice, everyone likes to pay a quarter or more for a clean toilet, licorice and a chat", she said
Jumbo would not comment on their decision to drop the toilet matrons.
