Semtex plastic explosives found in getaway car after Diemen shooting
The police discovered a large amount of Semtex after arresting three men for their involvement in a failed assassination in Diemen last year. The plastic explosives were found in the trunk of the suspects' getaway car, NRC reports.
The Public Prosecutor confirmed the Semtex find. The car contained about 2 kilograms of plastic explosives - enough to do do a considerable amount of damage to a building - as well as a detonator.
The suspects were arrested shortly after the failed assassination attempt. They were noticed because they were driving around in a stolen car. The progress of the investigation against the three suspects will be discussed in the court in Amsterdam on February 17th.
Since the summer of 2014, the police are focusing more on criminal acts that precede assassinations. This includes keeping track on arms trade and stolen cars.
