Man held after woman found dead in Amsterdam street

A 56-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested in connection with the death of a woman found on an Amsterdam street last week. Witnesses said the Chinese victim, 55, was badly bruised and bloodied when she was discovered on Nova Zemblastraat in the Spaarndammerbuurt neighborhood of Amsterdam. First responders were dispatched to the scene at 7:15 a.m. on December 28, police said. Attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful. Investigators were led to the suspect after collecting evidence and interviews with neighbors. The arrest was made a day after the victim died, police said Monday. A cause of death was not identified. The suspect was taken before a magistrate on December 31, and was remanded into custody while the investigation continues, police said.
